Damien Jurado’s recent recorded work, such as his newest record Visions of Us on the Land, has showcased elaborate, textured arrangements, a result, in part, of his collaborations with producer Richard Swift. However, at the core, Jurado’s songs remain simple, haunting, and gorgeous songs that read like metaphysical reflections or spirit quest into the noosphere. Generally, Jurado’s live show consists of just the songwriter with an acoustic guitar, creating an immediacy and intimate tension with the essential aspects of his songs. Audiences stand suspended in an unbroken state of hushed awe. Jurado’s current tour includes a backing band, The Heavy Light, and promises to feature some more fleshed out arrangements that reflect the spaciousness and atmospherics of his recent work. There’s no better venue in town for such a show than The Parish, where Jurado will play on Monday night. Tickets for the show are available here. Watch Jurado’s video for “Quachina” below.
