Track Premiere: Genuine Leather’s 80s Pop-infused “Two of Us”

Brunch WideAn undoubtedly underrated gem of a local band, Genuine Leather has an ability to constantly reinvent themselves. While they’ve shied away from confining themselves to one fixed aesthetic or sonic palette, the band has never shied away from making relentlessly infectious tunes — whether it’s the 70s rock guitars of “The Viper” or the weird multi-track vocals of “Jeffrey’s Jazz,” Genuine Leather songs consistently offer some alluring hook that’s just irresistible.

Over sixteen weeks (we’re four weeks in now), the band will share a track per week from their newest LP, Brunch. Thus far, the track represent yet another evolution for the band but also mark the most unified work they’ve created to date. These songs channel the upbeat rhythms of 80s pop and smooth synths of late 70s R&B. We’re proud to premiere “Two of Us,” the fourth track from Brunch, today on Pop Press International. With yearning, faraway vocals and rolling synths, the song falls somewhere in between Wings and Belinda Carlisle, and I mean that in the best way possible. This is unpretentious, windows-down summer-pop for people who aren’t afraid to boogie in their seat with everyone stuck in traffic watching. Stream “Two of Us” below, and keep your eyes on Genuine Leather’s Soundcloud page for future tracks in the coming weeks.
