With three members based in Austin and songwriter Alex Cohen spending much of her time in NYC, Alex Napping playing in Austin is sadly lesson common than it once was. But Cohen is back in town to celebrate the release of the band’s second LP, Mise En Place, with a show at Cheer Up Charlies tomorrow night. Austin music scene’s mise en place feels restored for the weekend. The band’s new album continues a trend of excellent songwriting backed by careful, balanced arrangements that feel simultaneously spacious and dense. These songs breathe but never rest, as they unfold and evolve beautifully. The evening’s bill is completed by three more excellent bands: Lomelda, Ama, and Caroline Says. Without a doubt, Cheer Up Charlies is the mise en place to be tomorrow night. Watch the video for Alex Napping’s song “Fault” below.
