For an all-out, pull-no-punches SNL season finale blowout, Mick Jagger acted as host and musical guest and performed songs with Arcade Fire, Foo Fighters, and Jeff Beck. In the final scene, Arcade fire performed The Rolling Stones’ “She’s A Rainbow” as Kristen Wiig enacted a ceremonial sequence of dances with the cast and series creator Lorne Micheals. The skit acted as a farewell to Wiig, as this was her last episode on the long-running, landmark series. At the end of the dance sequence, Arcade Fire transitioned into “Ruby Tuesday” as members of the cast continued to hug Wiig, who was joined on stage by Chris Kattan, John Hamm, and Amy Poehler.
Arcade fire continues to lay claim to their status as one of the most important bands making music today, having played with Bruce Springsteen in recent months and now the iconic singer of The Rolling Stones. Earlier in the show, Arcade Fire performed “The Last Time” with Jagger. The performance utilized both music stages, as the shot began with an a capella intro of soulful harmonies before panning left and transitioning into the main portion of the song. Video for that performance below.
