Let me tell you how much we like The Blow. I once flew The Blow from Seattle to Austin to perform for a New Year’s Eve party sponsored by my blog in 2007. So, you can bet we’ll be at Red 7 on Saturday night. What was once a solo project and later included YACHT’s Jona Bechtolt is now a duo featuring Khaela Maricich and Melissa Dyne. The duo has a new record out on Kanine Records, and what hasn’t changed is the project’s affinity for quick beats and heart-on-sleeve lyrics that explore identity and emotional struggle.
Even more reason to attend the show is local opener Love Inks, who has been out on the road and played several dates with The Blow. The trio creates immaculate and minimalist indie pop. Oh, and we’ve hosted them at a blog sponsored party as well. It’s a night full of bands we highly recommend at Red 7.
And, as if you need another excuse to get out for this show, while these two bands are performing on the outside stage, raucous indie rock outfit Those Darlins will be bringing the noise inside Red 7 and will be supported by Foxygen drummer Shaum Fleming’s new project Diane Coffee, who just released an album on the stalwart Western Vinyl Label.
