There must be a thing with horses and the specific sort of aesthetic evoked by thinking of them, because there are certainly tinges of Band of Horses in the DNA of Oklahoma City band Horse Thief. And that’s not a bad thing. Earthy vocals and a low, crunchy guitar balance pretty guitar parts on “Devil,” the first track to emerge from Fear In Bliss, a new LP that will see release on April 14th through Bella Union.
Horse Thief has come up through a local scene, working hard to play bills with bands in Oklahoma as well as nearby Texas cities such as Dallas and Austin. The band’s dedication and impressive songwriting ability has progressively expanded their following and even caught the ear of OKC hero Wayne Coyne with whom the band traded covers—Horse Thief performing The Flaming Lips’ “Try to Explain” and The Lips performing “I Am A Bear.”
This Friday, Horse Thief will perform at Holy Mountain on a bill that also features standout local and regional acts Black Books, Pageantry, and Shivery Shakes. Tickets are only $5 and are available here. You should go. Listen to “Devil” below.
