Austin band MARYANN has played a slew of shows over the past year, gaining notoriety in the local music community. This month, they will unveil Wylie, the full-length album they’ve been hard at work on. But first, we’re being given a glimpse at what’s to come from that release in the form of a new music video for album track “Shifting Ground.” The song itself has similar sensibilities to great American songwriter Harry Nilsson–upbeat riffs, background coos, bouncing piano, and a little bit of underlying grit. “Shifting Ground” is well-developed and mature songwriting, and we’re excited to hear the full album. The video features the members of MARYANN mostly in isolation, lightheartedly playing their instruments (or not), in a kind of deconstructionist take on a standard music video. The band will celebrate the release of their new album on April 16th at Cheer Up Charlies along with Greg Mullen. The show also serves as a tour kickoff for both acts. More about that show here.
