The newest installment of Shaking Through, a series produced by creative nonprofit organization Weathervane Music, features Houston band The Tontons. If you frequent this site, you undoubtedly know how smitten we are with The Tontons, but it still seems that our love grows with each new track. “Lush” is no exception, and I at once fell in love with the song’s wandering guitar hooks and upbeat rhythms. As if I needed other reasons to adore this project, Shaking Through is impeccably filmed and directed and does a fantastic job of both exploring the artists they cover and recording the sounds those artists create. We’re pretty impressed. One interesting fact: a Weathervane producer calls The Tontons an Austin band. While they are not, frontwoman Asli Omar mentioned at their 101X Homegrown Live show that they feel like Austin is their 2nd home, and we feel so proud of that fact. You can call us home any day of the week, Ms. Omar. Below you can stream “Lush” as well as watch outstanding documentary clips about The Tontons and the recording session that led to “Lush.” A great way to end your Friday.
