Brandon Durham has been a part of the independent music community for more than a decade, playing with his band Palaxy Tracks and serving as a member of celebrated band The Octopus Project. When I heard that Palaxy Tracks would be releasing a new record, it was something of a blast from the past. The band had been active around the time I first started discovering independent music in Austin in the early aughts, but has been dormant for a number of years. When you read Durham’s writing and hear him speak about his plans for his new record, his earnestness and commitment to creating music are clear. This is a project that deserves to be funded and you can help. Check out the page for their kickstarter here for more details and to donate. The campaign ends in less than two days. Below you can hear a rare song from Double Mono, a 12″ vinyl available as a perk at one of the contribution levels for the campaign. Double Mono is a vinyl record where the right and left channel play separate sounds. They can be mixed into one song, or listened to separately using the balance knob. The recording features contributions from Palaxy Tracks, John Saba Jr., Devin Maxwell, !!!, Jim Eno, The Octopus Project, AU, and Erin Flannery & Zach Layton.
