New single from former Stereolab singer Laetitia Sadier, “Then, I Will Love You Again” sits nicely with a plucky bassline groove and punchy drums, certainly holding onto its Stereolab influences. This track gives me a real new wave, Martha & The Muffins (a la “Echo Beach”) vibe with it’s half-singing half-speaking vocal track. Edgy bass and clean, jangly electric guitars further emphasize the (sometimes) dissonance the string section brings out and angular chord changes. It’s full arrangement clocks in under three minutes though never feels burdensome. Accessible and breezy through its above-mid-tempo pacing: “All the roots we grew/you will pull out/Oh it’s hard to do/To make the choice what to sacrifice” she sings, obviously tackling some relationship issues, but she won’t give up as the title purports. The new album, Something Shines, is out September 23 on Drag City.
