Sharon Van Etten released Are We There on Jagjaguwar Records earlier this year (read our review here), and released an accompanying video for single “Our Love” yesterday. Its gorgeously soft black-and-white treatment emphasizes the intimacy of the song’s painful lyrics: “You say I’m genuine/I see your backhand again/I’m a sinner, I have sinned/We’re a half mast flag in wind.” Past domestic abuse and current grapplings with self-doubt/guilt are all present here, beautifully contrasted with grayscaled soft bedsheets and anonymous male hands running along the equally soft skin of Van Etten.
