Boris is about discovery for me. When a new album is announced, I love waiting to hear what it will sound like. They are constantly evolving their sound: Sludge, Drone, Punk, Dream Pop. And many stops in between. But in my most avid fandom, I didn’t even know if I’d find their music. Limited runs of vinyl, different versions of CDs depending on which country it was released in, mysterious collaborative projects. It was a treasure hunt. I’ve seen them in a live setting numerous times, and they always elicit that same sense of discovery. One tour I watched them play almost all B-sides and another time they played a thirty minute song that I could never quite place. Their new album is the most varied of all, touching on each of their strengths, and I can’t wait to see what they do tonight at the Mohawk. I hope it involves a gong. If you don’t have tickets, get ’em here. Incredible openers Ceremony are also on the bill. Wow.
