This past weekend, I took a brief hiatus from writing reviews and allowed my co-corespondent Lukas the verbal spotlight to tell the tales of our magical Marfan weekend at the Trans-Pecos Festival of Music + Love, while I hid behind the camera. Now that his trilogy covering the weekend is completely published (found here, here, and here), I am stealing back a tad of the limelight and sharing with you just exactly my feelings regarding our time there. Drumroll, please.
Simply put, I was in a constant state of awe. All 3 days, 15 hours of driving, and 16 bands. Every second, musical or otherwise, played into the tranquility of the Chihuahua Desert, illuminating our hearts and spirits. This festival is the Festival of Love and Music for a reason! With musical acts not going on until nearly 7 PM, we had the ability to poke around the intriguing little town and its surrounding areas, stumbling upon massive works of art in unlikely West Texas fields, pursuing local book shops, and visiting Saturday markets. The days of adventure lead us back to El Cosmico, clear-headed yet somewhat transcendent, for nights of beautiful music that seemed to end all too early. Trans-Pecos has embossed itself into my very soul, and I cannot wait until we meet again.
Sound too good to be true? Honestly, it just might have been. I am nearly positive that someone would stand a chance at convincing me that a time to this exact degree of glory would be impossible, inconcievable, if it weren’t for all the time put forth on the content Lukas and I produced. If, for whatever reason, you unfortunately missed out on this wonderful convergence of camping, live music, and art, not to worry, as I was fortunate enough to be able to photographically document nearly every moment for your viewing pleasure.
