Show Preview: Motopony, Gold Beach, & Cross Record Tonight at Mohawk

Motopony comes from the rich music history of the Pacific Northwest. While the band’s instrumentation and production sensibilities embrace polished tendencies less associated with that region’s sounds, rough edges can be found in the bouncing, semi-chaotic vocal delivery of frontman Daniel Blue. The cadence of the delivery recalls Northwestern great Modest Mouse. I’ve been pretty interested in Motopony since they played as Daniel Jonhston’s backing band a few years ago at SXSW. Tonight, they return to Austin for a show at Mohawk, and I’m stoked.

Two outstanding local acts will open the bill: Gold Beach, with Michael Winningham’s diverse array of sonic textures and musical styles, and Cross Record, the brooding drone-pop of husband and wife team Emily Cross and Dan Duszynski. It’s going to be a good night. Get your tickets here or at the door. Only ten bucks, y’all. Stream music from all three bands below. Hell yeah!
