With the help of label Punctum Records and arts collective Raw Paw, Austin band Young Tongue will celebrate the release of their new album Death Rattle Saturday night at Cheer Up Charlie’s. Once known as The Baker Family, the band reincarnated as Young Tongue some time last year, and this album marks their first full length record since that switch. Though the album may be called Death Rattle, the nine songs that comprise the album are far from their death bed. These songs are full of energy and life, thundering forward with propulsive drums, thick guitar textures, and wandering guitar melodies. Young Tongue’s brand of indie rock incorporates post-punk tendencies and tribal undertones. Percussive clicks punctuate the record; in a live setting, these are provided by Liz Baker, who bangs away with drumsticks on a giant steel keg as she dances wildly. They’re a band to see. You can pick up a copy of the album at the show or order one here.

The remainder of the bill is rounded out by an excellent roster of artists including Chipper Jones, Boyfrndz, Modern Medicine, and CAPYAC. Find below streaming music from Young Tongue as well as a few of the other performing acts. See you all at Cheer Up!
