Skateboarders can only land tricks during the choruses of Young Tongue’s “Heavy Metal Thunder,” or so their new video for the song would have you believe. The black-and-white video features footage of each member of Young Tongue performing in isolation, interspersed with footage of (mostly) busted attempts at skateboarding tricks. Footage of the band and video editing were done by James Goulden, and the skateboarding footage was supplied by Rob Russell. “Heavy Metal Thunder” showcases Young Tongue’s ability to create muscular, angular rock music, but it’s the layered vocals of husband and wife Stuart and Liz Baker that gives the song its distinct vibe. The song can be heard on Young Tongue’s new album, Death Rattle, available for order now. The band’s next show is May 6th at Stubb’s with Mr. Gnome.

While we were honored to be asked by the band to premiere the video online, it was actually revealed to the world last night at the Austin Music Video Premiere Series event at Stay Gold, where additional videos were show by bands such as Megafauna, Christian Bland and the Revelators, and Christeene. The series is organized by Eye in the Sky Collective, who are also involved in the Austin Music Video festival, happening this September.
