The Strange Boys were great, and the band created some compelling music, especially considering the incredibly young age of these prodigious musicians. Despite our collective sadness that the Strange Boy’s have come and gone, I’m convinced that Ryan Sambol is releasing some of the most important material of his life right now. Or at least he will be in the next few months–with two album’s worth of songs to be issued from Austin based Punctum Records this summer. One will be under the moniker Living Grateful, while the other, Now Ritual, will be released under Sambol’s name. Yesterday Punctum shared from that album a new track, “Dinner Where I’m Staying,” which you can stream below. Centered on Sambol’s twangy yawps, bouncing piano, and harmonica, this is avant-garde porch sitting music for Texas summer dusks. Unbutton your shirt and crack a beer. Everybody’s singing along.
