Steady drums and an undulating guitar whine define the lead track on Olympia, Washington band Generifus’ forthcoming (and sixth) full-length, Extra Bad, which was recorded at the legendary Dub Narcotic Studio. The introduction of a piano part near the end rounds out this track from the project’s central force, Spencer Sult. I tried not to hear Nirvana in the guitar tones of “Pulled Over,” but the song definitely owes something to those progenitors of grunge—whatever that means. However, the aural aesthetic also leans into the slacker garage rock of the current underground paradigm. This song, along with other tracks on the record, sounds something like a less dazed Kurt Vile with fewer sprawling, hazy arrangements but just as many laid back grooves and several wailing guitar solos. We’re looking forward to the album’s September 1 release date. Pre-order here, and stream “Pulled Over” below.
