Show Preview: Girls Rock! PGH Benefit Show

girls rockTomorrow, Pittsburgh’s Mattress Factory will be hosting a benefit show show for the local arts advocacy group, Girls Rock!, an “empowerment program for female youths of all definitions, abilities and backgrounds. Girls Rock! Pittsburgh utilizes the process of making music to instill tools for amplifying self-confidence, creative expression, independent thinking, mutual respect, and cooperation, while cultivating a supportive and inclusive community of peers and mentors.”

Music starts early at 7 with a $5 cover. Brave the snowy Jonas and come to the Northside.

Performing will be locals Run Forever, who’ve been actively touring through the US in support of their incredible new self-titled album, released through No Sleep Records. The Braddock band has released a few albums prior to this most recent effort, but seem to be hitting their stride. A blend of alt-country, emo, and punk through a pop filter makes for quietly anthemic heart strings pulling.

Local all-lady band Dream Phone will bring the chillest, most washed-aht vibes to the Northside gallery, which will be open to the public from 6-7 before music starts. Dream Phone’s live energy is easy for most to catch. They exemplify the confident, creative, independent mantra Girls Rock! preaches.

Also performing will be free cake for every creature, a Philly-based quirky folk singer. Think Waxahatchee, Girlpool, or early Cat Power.
