Fresh off the heels of a successful SXSW run and in the middle of a national tour in support of debut full-length Human Ceremony (Fat Possum), Sunflower Bean comes through Pittsburgh Saturday night, stopping at the Smiling Moose. The group pulls influence from classic rock of the 60s and 70s, grunge riffage of the 90s, and contemporary indie pop sensibility, mashing it into a high-energy presentation both live and on tape. One performance at SXSW 2016 was preceeded by a set from country legend Loretta Lynn. Unwavering, the band delivered their stellar live show; drummer Jacob Faber held the Bonham-esque thunder while guitarist Nick Kivlen arpeggioed and riffed his way under the ethereal vocals of singer/bassist Julia Cummings.
