Glassblock, Pittsburgh’s newest web-based magazine officially launches this Thursday with a VIP event (tix here) and a party to follow (more tix) at Spirit. The project is the result of hard work by Adam Shuck (of Eat That, Read This fame) and David Bernabo (Food Systems, Host Skull, etc.), both highly prolific creatives living in Pittsburgh and documenting the city’s rich cultural renaissance. According to Glassblock, the publication’s aim is to “chronicle life and culture in Pittsburgh while spotlighting creative work from the traditional to the avant-garde. Our purpose is to celebrate, inform, assess, and entertain, highlighting the threads that connect all of our communities.” Do you feel like getting something off your chest and into the eyes and ears of your Steel City cohabitants? Check here on how to submit work. A few of the first pieces have already been released, including this love story between a woman and her maroon 1997 Nissan Altima, a loving ode to our American love affair with the automobile and how this fascination has developed into a love/hate struggle as our post-9/11, recessionary-pressured, social consciousness teaches us the rewards and heartache of personal transportation on four wheels. Come celebrate this Thursday, more event details here.
