A friend once argued that all bands ultimately despise being compared to other artists. But I think if someone’s calling you a punk rock Talking Heads there’s just not much room to feel slighted. Seriously, Ought takes the best parts of Talking Heads and Television and merges them into amazing, odd, disjointed rock songs. Despite looking to these seminal bands for stylistic influence, the group possesses one of the most distinct voices in indie rock today, largely due to frontman Tim Darcy’s energy and vocal delivery. We caught the band some months back and were completely floored by the arresting tension of their live show. Ought just released an incredible new video for “Beautiful Blue Sky.” Directed by Bobby McHugh, the video features Matt Drews dancing and posing and captures the same sort of deliberate and alluring oddity present in Ought’s recordings. The band plays at The Sidewinder on Friday and tickets for the show are available here. Watch “Beautiful Blue Sky” below.
