From upbeat psych rock to mellow baroque pop, tonight’s tonight’s two-headed bill at Antone’s will feature an array of styles from Quilt and Mutual Benefit. The pairing isn’t one that might immediately spring to mind, but I’ve been pumped about this show from the moment I saw the bill listed. I was able to catch Quilt last spring at Marfa Myths, and the band is fantastic. Mutual Benefit, orchestrated by primary songwriter Jordan Lee, has played Austin a couple of times in recent years and never disappoints. I still consider Love’s Crushing Diamond to be one of the more underrated albums of the past few years. It occupies a space sort of between a Sufjan Stevens album and Broken Social Scene’s You Forgot It In People — ornate and subtle, flowing seamlessly from one track to another like a dream sequence. You’re in luck, as tickets are available here. Stream music from both bands below.
