Tonight, Molly Burch celebrates the release of a brand new 7″ single at Barracuda, supported by Cowboy Crisis, Hidden Rituatl, and Jesse Woods & RF Shannon. In the spirit of Austin music true believers heading downtown tonight to see Burch play, we asked the songwriter, who just returned from a trip overseas, to reflect on some of her own notions about travel. Dig Molly Burch’s excellent video for “Downhearted” after the quick Q&A.
Pop Press INTL.: You just returned from a playing a show in Spain. What places did you visit and which was most beautiful?
Molly Burch: I traveled to Madrid, Majorca and Barcelona. They were all so beautiful. Madrid was especially romantic. I loved playing in Barcelona. Joan Guàrdia of the Barcelona label La Castanya set up a very cool and intimate solo show for me at the Sidecar. I got to meet my lovely label mates MOURN who are Barcelona based and Chris Cohen who happened to be playing that weekend as well. Spain is a wonderful place, I hope to go back soon.
PPI: If your new 7″ single, out now on Captured Tracks, were a landscape, what sort of landscape would it be?
MB: I guess I would say a field of poppies.
PPI: What was the strangest dream you had during your travels?
MB: I can’t remember!
PPI: Are you floating downriver, drifting out to sea, driving all night long, or climbing up a mountain?
MB: This is a tough one. I do not like driving or climbing. I guess floating downriver!
PPI: In general, in life, which is more pleasing, the sensation of departure or of return?
Both are so great, but I will say the sensation of returning. I love coming home to my own bed.
