Grimes – “Oblivion”

Directed by Emily Kai Bock, the video for “Oblivion” compiles machismo activities including, but not limited to: dirt bike racing, football, working out in a weight room, and of course, pushing each other around shirtless with a strobe light flashing. Our sweet, pink-haired, Canadian, Claire Boucher (aka Grimes), is juxtaposed in front of this masculinity. She dances happily; her airy, high-pitched voice singing about someone sneaking up and attacking you, which the audience never witnesses, but can imagine how easy it would be for any one of these musclemen to “break your neck…and you’d never have a clue.” With its bluish hue and arena landscapes, the video for Grimes’s new, catchy song warrants viewing.  Be our guest.
