Artist Profile: Paul Benson of Motorbikes and Ever Ending Kicks

During my recent trip to the Pacific Northwest and my attendance at the Anacortes Unknown Music Series, I had the privilege of catching a set by Motorbikes, a music project by Paul Benson that will soon shift to the moniker Ever Ending Kicks. Benson’s set consisted of gently layered loops of vocals and guitar and employed airy harmonies and soothing melodies.

As the founder and proprietor of Fontee Fount Recordings, Benson is a mainstay in the Anacortes music scene. He played in Mount Eerie’s backing band and will do so as well on tour this fall. At Anacortes Unknown, he played drums and/or guitars for Karl Blau and LAKE, as well as in a more full-time project, Hungry Cloud Darkening, which consist of all of the members of Mount Eerie’s current backing band except Carson Churchill of the project Takhoma.

Ever Ending Kicks will release its first full-length after shifting from the Motorbikes moniker. The LP is entitled Notion Free and should be out around October on Fontee Fount Recordings. Notion Free was recorded at the Unknown in Anacortes last year. Today, we can preview for you one track from the impending album. “Who Woulda Known?” features a low, rolling, soulful background vocal loop and crisp snare as Benson’s voice floats above the mix. Perfect for Sunday mornings or night owl work sessions. Stream below.
