Track Review: “Say So” – Little Brave

Austin’s Little Brave is less than a month from dropping Wild, an EP that follows their last full-length, Wound & Will, and the group just finished up a Daytrotter session yesterday. With Stephanie Briggs at the helm, Little Brave create soulful and tight indie-rock. With several releases under her own name, and one as Little Brave, Briggs’ contributions to the Austin music scene are substantial, but “Say So” is one of my favorite songs they’ve ever recorded. The track reminds me of early Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The verses are sparse and tense before the chorus explodes into melodic, twinkling guitar and Briggs’ vocals, “Won’t go without their say so, say so.” The see-saw, sing-song of the final hook of of the chorus refrain is stuck in your head for hours, and you don’t mind at all. The track is pop gold. The band plays Antone’s this Thursday and embarks on a short tour in September. Listen to “Say So” below.
