Read About Foxing Quarterly’s Inaugural Issue and Win a Copy of Your Own

Foxing Quarterly, a new literary magazine from Austin, Texas, held the release party for its inaugural issue earlier this month at Domy Books. To celebrate the event, several of the magazine’s editors (including the multi-talented Chase Weinacht of Marmalakes) read excerpts from the first issue and Claire Puckett of Mother Falcon performed songs.

For anyone with concerns about the printing quality of a start-up, DIY literary journal, worry no more. Issue number one of Foxing Quarterly is stunning. Beautiful, complex layouts are newly discovered with each turn of the page. The journal succeeds from the cover, a wonderful drawing by Jim Rugg, to the final page.

The pieces contained within run the gamut of genres and styles, but many tend toward a darkly humorous tone. “Baby Steps” by Nathaniel Tower recants the story of a baby that runs amok dominating her mother and father and reminds me a bit of Etgar Keret or Miranda July.

Foxing Quarterly is already planning its winter issue, and we can’t wait to see what’s next for this young literary journal. For now, we want you to delight in the splendor of Foxing Quarterly, so we’re giving away a copy!
