Black Moth Super Rainbow at The Mohawk

BMSR-6We know, we know, this show was so last week, but we wanted to share some photos and reminisce about Black Moth Super Rainbow’s recent show at the Mohawk in Austin. BMSR creates music that exists in its own dimension, nestled comfortably between jammy, tranced out hippiedom and mind-expanding electronica. And we say that with all our love and respect. The band’s sound makes for an interesting and broad fan demographic ranging from those who crave the grooves of the band’s beats, those who want to sink into forgetful relaxation, and those who want to aggressively expand their consciousness.

BMSR-8All these various archetypical music lovers descended upon the Mohawk at the end of May to check out a show from the band, touring behind their recent album Cobra Juicy. With somewhat reclusive and secretive Tobacco at the helm, the band cranked out epic and dense soundscapes that had the packed house at Mohawk enrapt. Surrounded by an incredibly devoted fanbase inching ever forward toward the stage and grinning in euphoria, I could fee the genuine affection for the band and their music radiating from concertgoers and heightening the band’s intensity.

It’s definitely a show that adeptly reconstructs the bands difficult song structures and it’s highly recommended for fans of the band or those who want to be carted away to the dimension of Black Moth Super Rainbow.
