If her face looks familiar to you, it may be because she plays in rising surf-rock band La Luz. She’s an excellent bassist, but her work with Kairos proves her abilities as a songwriter and vocalist as well. So far, we’ve been graced with two tracks from her forthcoming EP as well as a bonus cover of Kanye West’s “Street Lights.” Come next week, we’ll be able to check out the other music the EP has in store, and you can be one of the first by winning tickets to Kairos’ EP release show at The Crocodile on May 19th. The winner will also receive a copy of the EP on 12″ vinyl as well as a Fin Records t-shirt. One hell of a prize package.

To WIN, you must be following us on Twitter, and retweet this post right here. That’s it!

Winners will be chosen and notified on this Friday May 16th.

To get pumped up for the show, listen to three tracks from Kairos below, including the recent released gritty indie pop track “Dirt & Grit.”

A little before SXSW hit, I got an email from a publicist about Kairos, the project of La Luz’s new bassist Lena Simon. I actually bookmarked the email and planned to write a post before the insanity of the festival took hold. Then, I saw La Luz perform at SXSW for the first time since Simon has joined the band. She’s incredible, and now I’m wishing I had written this post weeks ago. Not only is she an incredibly talented bassist, but Kairos proves her abilities as a vocalist and frontwoman. “Can/Cannot,” is built on slow, rolling synths, steady hi-hat, and Simon’s lush voice. Think a more present, less washed out Beach House. The song’s movement from the verses into the chorus is perfect. The song will be featured on a debut EP set for release this spring on Fin Records. Stream or download “Can/Cannot” below.
