A celebration of that occasion, sponsored by blog buddies Austin Town Hall and Side One Track One, happens tonight at Holy Mountain and features music not only from Ramesh but also outstanding Austin acts Abram Shook, She Sir, and Young Girls. Each act brings diversity to the bill. Ramesh, shimmering indie pop. Abram Shook, smooth R&B-tinged grooves. She Sir, beautiful shoegazey noise. And Young Girls, rocking garage pop. It’s an outstanding bill, especially in light of the infrequency with which the two headlining acts perform. Don’t miss this one, Austin. RSVP and get more info here.

Austin band She Sir’s new song “Kissing Can Wait” is a reverbed wash of guitars with a glittering shimmer of twinkling notes laid on top. The band blends 90s shoegaze sensibilities with an 80s new wave framework, and they know how to work it. The band will issue their new album Go Guitars on Shelflife Records on February 25th and celebrate with a release show at Mohawk on February 27th. Listen to “Kissing Can Wait” below.

At the tail end of a Friday, when all statistics and web-traffic research say there’s almost no point in blogging, we’re throwing caution to the wind. Why, you ask? Because as is often the case, we, like you, are faced with such a tremendous number of inarguable reasons to go see live music this weekend that we’re having difficulty picking. It’s 2013 and we still can’t be in four places at one? Really, technology? Get your shit together. Here are the best shows for Friday and Saturday night, with some tunes to convince you; consider it your soundtrack to the weekend.

Friday Night May 17th:

1. Ringo Deathstarr, Poppy Red, Ruby Fray, She Sir, Golden Bough at Hotel Vegas

Awesome live show from this distorted, shoegazey indie-pop headliner who has recently shared the stage with the likes of Bob Mould and Smashing Pumpkins supported by local up and comers Poppy Red and K Records artist Ruby Fray.

2. Royal Forest, Reservations, Grand Child at Club Deville

We posted earlier this week about the new track and upcoming album from Royal Forest. With support from folk songstress Jana Horn of Reservations, this is gonna be a good one.

3. Borrisokane (EP release), Black Books (tour kickoff), Letting Up Despite Great Faults, Tiger Waves at the Scottish Rite Theater

This bill is just amazing! All four bands are incredibly solid. Borrisokane headlines as an EP release, but kudos are in order for Black Books who will soon depart for the UK to play with The Flaming Lips! Wow! Congratulations!

Saturday Night May 18th:

1. A Giant Dog, The Crack Pipes, The Bad Lovers, Classy Nude at Beerland

If you want it loud, fast, and totally rock ‘n’ roll, don’t miss the epic garage rock fun to be had at this show!

2. Eternal Summers, Loom Pedal at the Mohawk

Indie-pop delightfulness for your Saturday night.

3. Buxton, The Sour Notes, Growl, Gang Signs at Holy Mountain

Buxton are a band we fell in love with instantly and you will too. The Sour Notes, one of Austin’s best and most celebrated bands support. Congrats to the Sour Notes also for being added to the lineup for Free Press Summer Fest in June. They’ll play alongside… Buxton. We told you this was a good bill!
